FIRECOAT Defend is a fire-retardant powder concentrate allowing you to establishes a rapid temporary fire containment line around structures and livestock, protecting them when a bushfire threat arises.

How Does Firecoat Defend Establish A Temporary Containment Line Against Fire?
FIRECOAT Defend absorbs flame energy and transforms it into an active char barrier on the treated vegetation.
Char burns poorly, causing the flame to self-extinguish and prevent flame spreading.
Does Firecoat Defend Remain Effective After The Treated Area Is Dried?
Yes, the long-term flame retardant in the formula continues to protect the treated area even when the water content evaporates off.
FIRECOAT Defend is suitable for pre-treatment days before the arrival of the fire front.
Does The Water Quality Affect The Performance Of Firecoat Defend?
FIRECOAT Defend can tolerate changes in tap or freshwater hardness and temperature (e.g., 4-38 ºC).
It is recommended to use up the mixture within 48 hours.
Has Firecoat Defend Met Any Performance Standards?
FIRECOAT Defend has been rigorously tested and approved by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of its formal 18-month certification process for performance, safe handling and environmental impact.
It is now one of only 3 products approved by USDA and meets the requirements of USDA’s Forest Service Specification 5100-304d for ground application.
FIRECOAT Defend Application FAQ
Mix 1 part FIRECOAT Defend (powder) to 8 parts water.
For example, 1 kg of the powder must be mixed with 8 L of water.
Mix thoroughly (for 5-10 min) to obtain a homogeneous liquid mix.
Apply 600 mL of the FIRECOAT Defend liquid mix per
square metre.
A good rule of thumb is to make the treated area
soaking wet with the spray to ensure enough flame retardant is applied.
The width of the treated area should be 2-3 times the height of nearby solid fuel sources, like bushes.
For instance, a 1 m tall bush will need a protective barrier of 2-3 m in width.
This helps suppress flames and prevents spot fires caused by flying embers which can happen before the fire front arrives.
Apply FIRECOAT Defend as a preventive measure, especially during the bushfire season, particularly when extended periods of dry, hot, and windy weather
are anticipated.
Re-application may be necessary during this period to maintain optimal effectiveness.

This helps suppress flames and prevents spot fires caused by flying embers which can happen before the fire front arrives.
To ensure ongoing protection, it is strongly recommended to reapply the dispersion under the following circumstances:
- When dry, hot weather returns after rain
- When the colour of the treated area appears faded
- One more time before evacuation if possible to maximise protection
Yes, FIRECOAT Defend is safe to handle according to
results from accredited third-party testing facilities.
It is not classified as Dangerous Goods according to the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and labelling of dangerous Goods (GHS) as specified by
Safe Work Australia.

Users are still strongly advised to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the safe handling and usage of FIRECOAT Defend.
Although the flame retardant in FIRECOAT Defend would
convert into nutrients slowly (acting as a fertilizer for plants during the decomposition process), it is advisable to avoid applying FIRECOAT Defend near bodies of water (minimum 30 m) to prevent the potential for inducing eutrophication (such as algal bloom), especially in stagnant water.
When applied at a distance, the product can be effectively diluted before entering any bodies of water, ensuring environmental safety.
